Pep Guardiola goes on strange Julia Roberts rant over Champions League ‘failure’

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola unleashed a bizarre rant about Julia Roberts as he opened up on his Champions League "failure".

City progressed to the quarter-finals of Europe's premier competition as they smashed RB Leipzig for seven last night (March 14), with Erling Haaland netting five of them. It's one step closer to a trophy which has remained elusive for Guardiola during his time at the Etihad and eluded him at Bayern Munich.

But the Spaniard insisted post-match he would always be a failure regardless of if they finally win it this season because Hollywood actress Roberts, who's one of his three idols, opted to visit rivals Manchester United back in November 2016 instead of them.

He said during his press conference: "I am a failure in the Champions League. If I win the Champions League three times in a row I will be a failure.

"I have three idols in my life. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Julia Roberts. These are my three idols. Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester – not in the 90s when Sir Alex Ferguson was winning titles and titles and titles.

Will City finally win the Champions League this year? Let us know in the comments section.

"She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right? And she went to visit Man United. She didn't come to see us.

"That's why even if I win the Champions League it will not compare for the fact that Julia Roberts came to Manchester and didn't come to see us. Even if I win the Champions League it will not compare to this disappointment I had."

Roberts visited Old Trafford to watch United's 1-1 draw against West Ham, a game which saw then-manager Jose Mourinho sent off and Zlatan Ibrahimovic salvage a point for the hosts as Diafra Sakho had opened the scoring inside two minutes.

After the match she, her husband Daniel Moder and their three children, who are all Red Devils fans, took to the pitch and met Wayne Rooney, his wife Coleen, and Michael Carrick.
