Manchester City will not turn their attention to Erling Haaland if Tottenham refuse to sell Harry Kane, according to reports. Pep Guardiola wants Kane to replace Sergio Aguero this summer but the transfer saga looks set to rumble on for some time, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy sticking to his guns over his star player.

Kane has ramped up his attempts to force an exit from Tottenham this week, refusing to turn up for training for two consecutive days under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 28-year-old striker is determined to join Man City this summer, having grown frustrated with the lack of progression with Spurs.

Kane is yet to win a major title with his boyhood club and made it clear months ago that he wanted to move on ahead of the 2021/22 season.

However, he has three years left on his Tottenham contract and Levy is reportedly unwilling to sell him, especially to a Premier League rival.

Kane felt he had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Spurs that he could leave if the club received a suitable offer, but Tottenham say that is not the case.

According to The Athletic, City remain confident they will land their man despite Levy’s stance and the fact Spurs rejected an offer of £100million earlier this summer.

Guardiola is so confident in his club’s ability to get the deal over the line that, despite having a list of alternative options earlier in the year, he has now zeroed in on Kane.

That means Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is not on the cards for City, who are also chasing Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish in another £100m transfer move.

Haaland attracted plenty of attention earlier in the year when his agent Mino Raiola went on a tour to speak with Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, Dortmund’s £73m sale of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United makes Haaland’s departure unlikely this summer.

The Norwegian star, who has also been linked with Chelsea, is currently valued at around £150m by Dortmund, but he has a release clause which will allow him to leave for £64m (€75m) in June 2022.

Meanwhile, The Athletic says that Kane plans on staying away from the club’s Hotspur Way training ground until he is granted his wish.

Yet Spurs are determined to follow the paths they laid out with Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, who they refused to sell to a Premier League rival and instead went to Real Madrid.

A stand-off is now expected between Kane and Tottenham, who plan to fine him as long as he fails to return up for training.

The transfer window closes on August 31, but the Premier League season begins in just 10 days when newly-promoted Brentford take on Arsenal.
