Raphael Varane showed why Manchester United need to break the bank and bring him to Old Trafford with a defensive masterclass against Germany.
The Real Madrid centre-back expertly marshalled the France defence in a 1-0 win to open their Euro 2020 campaign in the 'Group of Death'.
Varane is being strongly linked with a move to United this summer as the Old Trafford hierarchy seek a world class partner for Harry Maguire at the back.
United's very own Paul Pogba was awarded the official UEFA 'Star of the Match' award, having helped to set up Hummels' own goal with a quite sensational pass.
The former Juventus man bossed the midfield with relative ease, and looked completely dominant in defence and attack.
However, Varane certainly staked his claim for man of the match with a quite superb performance of his own.
According to data from Squawka, the 28-year-old won 100 per cent of his aerial duels, take-ons and tackles won.
Varane also made eight clearances, the most of anyone on the pitch, winning six duels and 3 aerial battles in total.
Not a single German attacker managed to dribble past the four-time Champions League winner, while he picked up two interceptions.
One man who looks to be nearing a move to United is Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, who is reportedly expecting to be playing for the Red Devils next season.
Man Utd prepare medical for ‘this week’ – but won’t announce signing until July
The two clubs have been in negotiations over a deal for the England winger.
And according to the Manchester Evening News, the expectation for Sancho is that he will get his move to Old Trafford this summer.
Sancho is said to have pushed his agent, Emeka Obasi, to secure a transfer this summer after he failed to make the switch last year.
In talks over the personal terms for the winger, United initially balked at Sancho's salary demands and first offered below his current £190k-a-week salary at Dortmund.
But the MEN add Obasi is believed to have reached a breakthrough this time with United, meaning it is just a fee that needs to be agreed with personal terms sorted in principle.
