Onana enduring sluggish start to Manchester United career
Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has revealed that he and Rasmus Hojlund worked on their relationship ‘without the staff knowing’ in a bid to strike up a deadly attacking partnership. Hojlund appears to have settled in well at Old Trafford and scored his first goal for the Red Devils against Bayern Munich last week.
The 20-year-old forward clinically finished Rashford’s cutback during United’s 4-3 Champions League defeat in Munich. It came after the summer signing impressed in Premier League fixtures against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
Rashford has now revealed that he has been working with Hojlund behind the scenes to ensure they quickly form a relationship following the club’s awful start to the new season. United desperately need their best players to start performing after a run of just one win in five matches across all competitions.
“We spoke [with Hojlund]. We did a lot of work off the field, probably without the staff knowing,” Rashford revealed. “I want to understand his game and he wants to understand mine as quickly as possible.”

Hojlund was signed from Atalanta for an eye-watering £72million fee in the summer. Erik ten Hag was desperate to sign a prolific forward to solve United’s goalscoring problems, with the team relying on Rashford for goals last season.
Ten Hag was not surprised to see the Norwegian open his account in midweek, having also seen him have a goal disallowed in the 3-2 win over Forest a week earlier. The Dutchman is ‘confident’ his new signing will continue to score goals.
“We know he can score, so we are happy,” Ten Hag said. “Now he gets a start and, I already said previously, I’m confident he will score goals.”

United have been in desperate form this season. Several crises both on and off the pitch have led to just two wins across all competitions.
Ten Hag bemusingly suggested that he has never been able to pick his best team. He insisted: “One thing is true, from the start of last season I don’t think I ever started with, in my opinion, the best starting XI. There was always injuries,” the United boss said after the reverse in Munich.
“We always got results apart from the period we are in now. I have experienced it in the past and managed it. You have to deal with it. I like these situations because you have to handle it and know what to do, and that is focusing on the process.”
