Real Madrid have set their sights on becoming the best team in the world in the next few years. They have invested heavily in young, exciting players, such as Eduardo Camavinga, and want to bring free-scoring striker Erling Haaland to the Santiago Bernabeu as well.

Haaland has set the Bundesliga alight since his arrival at Dortmund last year, scoring 47 goals in 48 appearances and becoming one of the most exciting talents in the world.

The Norwegian forward has pace and power, but most importantly he is a lethal finisher and will continue to break records as he improves.

It is well reported that the 21-year-old has a release clause of £68million in his contract that will become active in June 2022, which has caught the interest of clubs all over Europe.

However, Real Madrid may not want to wait that long to secure his signature and are looking to sell Eden Hazard in order to fund a bid.

The Belgian winger moved to Madrid in 2019 for £140m after seven successful years with the Blues, but he has struggled in the La Liga.

Understandably, the triple-figure fee paid for Hazard meant there were incredibly high expectations for the forward, but he has fallen below them consistently.

Injuries, fitness issues and internal issues within the club are being highlighted as reasons why the former Lille man has struggled, but he also lacks the pace, ability and presence that he had whilst at Stamford Bridge.

As a result, Madrid have had enough of giving Hazard second chances and are instead looking to offload him and cut their losses so that they can sign Haaland, according to Sport ES.

Rumours circulated earlier this month that there was an agreement between Dortmund and Madrid, however, the German sides chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke told Sport1, via The Sun, that this was simply not the case.

He said: “Some experts say, ‘They’re in the stock market, they’re going to have to sell Haaland next summer.’

“The decision as to whether or not to sell someone at our club is taken exclusively by the board.

“It has not yet been decided if he will leave next summer. We’ll see.”

Though the Signal Iduna Park outfit do have the power in the negotiations process for the moment, Watzke may need to reconsider how soon he is willing to part ways with the forward as he may become short-pocketed come next summer.

However, there is also a major obstacle that could prevent Haaland from making his way to Madrid.

The 13-time Champions League winners’ priority in the next few windows is signing French forward Kylian Mbappe, according to Marca, which could deter the Norwegian from signing for Madrid.

It is claimed, also by Marca, that the former Molde wants his next to be somewhere that he is the ‘main man’ and can be the central leader on the pitch, but if he is going to have to line up alongside France 2018 World Cup winner Mbappe then he will have to learn to share the spotlight.

Over the summer, Madrid looked set to sign Mbappe after bidding twice for him in the last few weeks of the window but both were declined by PSG. His contract expires in Paris next year and if he doesn’t sign an extension then it is assumed that the Santiago Bernabeu will be his next destination.
