Ten Hag coy on Man Utd's links with Neymar
Manchester United could have the chance to sign Kylian Mbappe if Sheikh Jassim is successful in acquiring the club from the Glazers as the PSG star considers his future. Reports in France suggest the World Cup winner is plotting a move away from the Ligue 1 champions and United are monitoring the situation, with Jassim already making clear his plans to sign the France international if he beats Jim Ratcliffe in being selected as the club’s preferred bidder.
Mbappe signed a two-year contract worth a massive £94million last year after turning down interest from Real Madrid to stay with the Parisian giants.
However, it was viewed as a temporary measure to stop Mbappe leaving for free, having cost PSG a huge £160m fee in 2017 when arriving from Monaco.
That contract contains a one-year extension clause that would tie him down to the club until 2025, which was the number displayed on the shirt held aloft by Mbappe when he announced the new deal.

But according to French newspaper L’Equipe, Mbappe has ‘no intention’ of exercising the clause, which means he would be free to leave the club in the summer of 2024.
PSG are ‘not panicking’, however, as they do not have to sell him this summer and will have Mbappe for the 2023-24 campaign, having already convinced the striker to change his mind about leaving on one occasion.
Given his exorbitant wage demands, only a handful of clubs could afford Mbappe’s weekly salary, with Real Madrid understood to be keeping a close eye on Mbappe’s movements. In the same report, Manchester United are mentioned as a potential destination along with Champions League holders Real.
And with Sheikh Jassim’s apparent desire to sign the world-class players to add to Erik ten Hag’s squad and his personal admiration of the 24-year-old, he is likely to be on their list of targets if the Qatari billionaire takes over.

It follows speculation this week that United have approached another PSG player, Neymar, to discuss a move to Old Trafford.
Along with Mbappe and Kingsley Coman, Jassim is understood to be keen to see the Brazilian in United colours, although there are doubts over whether Ten Hag is on common ground with the prospective owner.
With United set to clinch Champions League qualification, the income will allow United to increase their spending this summer.
But United may have to wait until 2024 before they can dream of seeing Mbappe roll up in front of their fans at Old Trafford – and that could depend on whether Real Madrid rival them for his signature.
