Sir Alex blasted ‘you’ll never play for Man Utd again’ after Manchester derby

Manchester United and Manchester City are set to renew their rivalry on Saturday lunchtime – but the clash isn't full of happy memories for one ex-Red Devil.

Sir Alex Ferguson blasted Ruud van Nistelrooy after he swapped shirts with a City player following a derby defeat. Shaun Goater netted twice while Nicolas Anelka was also on target as City ran out 3-1 winners.

And after Van Nistelrooy walked into the dressing room with a City shirt, according to Rio Ferdinand, Sir Alex lost it. "We got beat 3-1 at Maine Road with Shaun Goater scoring two goals," Ferdinand said on an episode ofRio Ferdinand Presents FIVE .

"That was the first derby I played and the moment I realised how big it was in the changing room after.

"We walked in and the manager shut the door. It was quiet and then all of a sudden he just erupted. He destroyed him, saying: 'If I ever see any of you walking with a City shirt ever again you'll never play for this club.'

"That's how he was, he was just mad. That's when I sat there and thought: 'This is a big game, isn't it?'"

Gary Neville added to the tale on Quickly Kevin, Will He Score? podcast: "I always remember, after that game Ruud van Nistelrooy had swapped shirts with a City player.

"The City player had come up to him and swapped shirts. He [Ferguson] said, 'You do not give away one of those shirts. They're my shirts. They're this club's shirts, they're not your shirts. You're just wearing them temporarily.

"That's not your possession to give away.' He stopped us swapping shirts in domestic games. I think he said after that game, 'I should let the fans in here. I should let the fans come in here and speak to you'."
