Solskjaer tells Man Utd board he needs transfer trio in Premier League title bid

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explained how Manchester United are 'one, two, three' transfers away from challenging for the Premier League.

The Red Devils laid down a marker on Sunday at Old Trafford after swatting Manchester City aside with relative ease.

Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay netted in a 2-0 victory to put them three points behind Chelsea in fourth.

It is the third time this season United have bested Pep Guardiola's side.

And it also marks the 10th unbeaten match in a row for the Red Devils.

However, Solskjaer has insisted he has not got the side he wants yet and has demanded three signings in the summer.

The Norwegian boss said after the result: “For me it shows we are on the right track and improving and we are Manchester United and looking to catch the teams in front of us.

“We feel we are improving all the time.

“We know we lack one, two, three players to be considered a title contender and some experience and we know that.

"We are just going to start talking about going up the table, getting more points.”

Several stars that have been criticised in the past made the step up, such as the likes of Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial.

Solskjaer added: “It’s a privilege to be manager of players with this attitude, they give it everything they’ve got.

“They’re going to improve as players. The fans and players love it.

“You can say it’s only three points but to beat a team like City, especially with the problems we’ve had is fantastic. We’re delighted with the outcome.”

Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva was furious with the manner in which City lost – their seventh of the Premier League season.

Bernardo said: “It was a bad game for us. Not acceptable. We didn’t start badly and were playing quite well until we conceded.

“We know how good the Manchester United players are on the counter-attack, very aggressive. So our performance was not acceptable.

“We will have to watch the game back and listen to what Pep has to say.

“But a team like ours cannot lose this many games. We need to check what’s not going right and try not to make so many mistakes.”
