Jules Kounde is still at the top of Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel’s transfer wish-list, despite their failed attempt in signing the Sevilla defender in the summer. The reigning Champions League holders thought they had signed the 23-year-old in the summer transfer window, only for the La Liga giants to change their mind in the dying stages of the window.

The Blues even allowed Kurt Zouma to join West Ham for £34m to make space in the squad for him, but the Blues’ transfer pursuit ended with the Frenchman, perhaps reluctantly, staying at Julen Lopetegui’s.

Their failure to sign the 23-year-old and their decision to sell Zouma seems even more glaring with Chelsea facing an exodus of defenders.

Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger, and Andreas Christensen could depart the club for nothing, when their contracts at Stamford Bridge expire at the end of the season.

However, the Blues could very well look to bolster their uncertain backline by trying their luck at signing Kounde again.

Reports from L’Equipe understand the Blues ‘have not lost sight’ of the French international, who has also been linked with a move to Manchester United.

Kounde has played all but three matches in La Liga for Sevilla this season, who are currently enjoying a phenomenal campaign.

Lopetegui’s are currently trailing first placed Real Madrid by five points but hold a ten-point advantage over third place Real Betis.

While the defender has enjoyed another impressive season, L’Equipe also believe Tuchel’s men are also interested in signing Kounde’s international compatriots Presnel Kimpembe and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Kimpembe’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is also purported to be uncertain, as he is yet to agree a contract extension with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Chelsea are also believed to be admirers of the 26-year-old defender who has made 16 appearances for the French giants.

Meanwhile, Tchouameni is another French player who has regularly been linked with a move to west London.

The Monaco midfielder is understood to have been earmarked as a cheaper alternative to West Ham and England star Declan Rice.

Rice’s stock is extremely high right now having impressed at the heart of David Moyes’ side’s midfield.

Moreover, the Hammers are also able to demand any transfer fee they like for the 22-year-old, as he still has two and a half years left on his contract at the London Stadium.

However, the Blues could be dragged into a bidding war for Tchouameni, as the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus are also believed to be keen on the 21-year-old Frenchman.

Transfermarkt value Tchouameni at a hefty but reasonable £36m, but a much larger bid would likely be required to sign him.

Tchouameni played a starring role in France’s Nations League final victory over Spain, forming a wonderful partnership with United general Paul Pogba.
