Manchester United returned to winning ways in the Europa League after beating Omonia 2-1 in Cyprus on Thursday night.

But it did not go all the Red Devils' way after going a goal down in the first half in surprising circumstances. Former Nottingham Forest star Karim Ansarifard grabbed the opener after an incisive breakaway.

However, Erik ten Hag made some crucial changes to the match with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial coming on and scoring. It puts United in a decent position in their Europa League group.

But where did Ten Hag get it right?

Crucial changes

United were in dire need of some firepower and Ten Hag made the changes when Rashford came on at half-time. The England international scored within minutes before Martial was introduced, making an instant impact with the eventual winner.

Rashford then made sure of the result with 10 minutes to go to continue his fine form. However, Ten Hag might have some concerns with Jadon Sancho – who failed to impress.

Casemiro bedded in

The Brazil international has had a slow start to life in Manchester but was given a starting spot in the side on Thursday night. And it is important that Casemiro is bedded in this season with defensive midfield a problematic position for the Red Devils.

Scott McTominay has been decent this campaign but Casemiro is a clear upgrade and could help take United to the next level.

Cristiano cameo

While not his best performance, Ronaldo had the spotlight after not appearing against Manchester City at the weekend. Ten Hag decided to leave the Portugal international completely out of the picture on the bench "out of respect".

However, the 37-year-old missed an open goal when he had the chance to put the game to bed. It is shaping up to be a miserable campaign for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner at United but winning the Europa League would only add to his legacy.
