Fabio Paratici could use his Juventus connections to help Tottenham sign defender Merih Demiral this summer, according to reports in Italy. Uncertainty currently reigns at Spurs, who are without a manager, but new director of football Paratici has begun identifying potential signings, with Demiral one of those on his long list.

Tottenham’s current focus is on appointing a manager because 68 days have now elapsed since chairman Daniel Levy pulled the trigger on Jose Mourinho.

Several names have come and gone since April 19 but none of them have stuck, putting Tottenham’s transfer business on the back-burner.

While he has failed to find a manager, Levy has completed one piece of business this summer, appointing Paratici as director of football.

Paratici will arrive at the start of July after stepping down from the same role at Juventus and the Italian has a good reputation in the market.

Tottenham have understandably been linked with lots of Italy-based players since his move to Spurs was announced and Demiral is the latest of them.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Demiral has been put up for sale by Juve as the club seeks to raise funds for other transfers.

The club’s directors have reportedly already met with his agent to discuss a move away, with the Turkish international unhappy to remain as the side’s fourth choice centre-back.

Demiral still has three years left on his Juve contract, having signed a five-year deal when he arrived from Sassuolo in 2019.

So while they are keen to sell, Juventus will not do so unless their asking price of £34.4m (€40m) is met.

Tottenham are considered to be an option but are not the only club mentioned in the report, with Everton suggested in a potential deal involving striker Moise Kean.

Kean made his name at Juventus before joining Everton on a five-year contract in 2019.

Things didn’t work out for the young striker on Merseyside, but he looks set for a summer transfer following a positive loan spell at Paris Saint-Germain last season.

PSG are the frontrunners for his signature however, like Spurs, Everton’s lack of a manager could delay their transfer business.

Demiral made just 24 appearances across all competitions for Juventus last season, with Matthijs de Ligt, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini ahead of him in the pecking order.

The Old Lady are set to undergo a rebuild this summer, with Max Allegri returning as manager in place of Andrea Pirlo.
