Spurs are reportedly closing in on a swap deal with Sevilla involving Erik Lamela and Bryan Gil.  The Spanish side would receive Lamela, as well as £21million as compensation for their highly rated youngster.

Gil impressed massively at Eibar last campaign, notching four goals and three assists from the wing in his first season of regular first-team football.

The 20-year-old also has three caps for the Spanish national side which, at such a young age, is testament to his talent and potential.

In letting go of Lamela, Spurs seem to be facilitating the departure of a winger who has gone as far as he can in the white shirt, for the arrival of a youngster who could develop into a world-beater.

Sevilla put together an outstanding season last time out under Julen Lopetegui while Gil was out on loan, so they are reportedly happy to finalise the deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It would mean the end of an eight-year stay for Lamela, who has always been a player with a trick up his sleeve but has failed to show consistency in front of goal while in north London.

In fact, he only reached double figures in all competitions on one occasion in 2016, while last season he only notched a single Premier League goal.

Granted, that strike was the incredible rabona finish against Arsenal, a derby in which the Argentinian also got sent off and saw his side lose the game – the perfect metaphor for his time at the club.

Spurs have been on the hunt for a top-class winger to join up with Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane for some time.

Other hyped players have tried, and ultimately failed to impress – Lamela being one of them, while Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura remain at the club for the time being.

Indeed, the presence of those more experienced wingers dictates that Gil will not be under too much pressure to make a dramatic impact from the first week of the new season.

In signing the Spaniard, Spurs will have their hands on a technically gifted youngster who loves to receive the ball in tight spaces and ask questions of defenders with his quick feet.

Having got off to a slow start since taking the reins at Spurs, Nuno Espirito Santo and sporting director Fabio Paratici now appear to be closing in on a number of deals.

Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu, as well as Atalanta duo Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini have all been heavily linked with the club in the past few days.

With the Sevilla swap deal expected to progress quickly, this could be the spark which Spurs need to get the ball rolling in what has already been a summer of transformation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with yet more change expected to follow.
