Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Barcelona duo Sergino Dest and Clement Lenglet in the January transfer window, reports suggest. Antonio Conte has apparently been promised a significant transfer budget in the upcoming transfer market, and the Catalan pair are two purported names on his shortlist.

The former Chelsea manager rejected the north Londoners’ approaches last summer, but surprisingly took up the reins when Spurs chairman Daniel Levy circled back to the Italian after sacking Nuno Espirito Santo.

Performances and results have experienced a steady incline under the four-time Serie A champion, who is unbeaten in the Premier League since entering the dug-out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, an assault on the upcoming January transfer market could be pending, as Conte does not appear to be too satisfied with the current crop of players at his disposal.

And Barcelona defensive duo Sergino Dest and Clement Lenglet could be among the names to come through the doors, according to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero (Via Sport).

Barca manager Xavi is also desperate to stamp his own mark on his side in the upcoming January transfer window.

Unfortunately, the Catalans’ perilous financial difficulties from the summer, continue to plague them; therefore, any new purchases must either be free transfers and loan signings, or be funded by player sales.

Romero reported in January that Dest was one of three players to have been put up for sale, alongside goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and star midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

However, he has since claimed Lenglet has also been put on the chopping block.

The Frenchman appears to be surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, having been left on the bench for three of Xavi’s opening five La Liga matches.

But both Barcelona stars could be offered a lifeline by Conte, who is purportedly keen on the defensive duo.

With Tottenham’s defence continuing to leak goals, despite the Italian’s presence, a defensive overhaul appears to be Conte’s priority in the upcoming window.

Conte’s reign did not get off to the best of starts as summer arrival Cristian Romero suffered a very serious hamstring injury while on international duty with Argentina.

His return date is still currently unknown, and Conte may need to add extra reinforcements to his backline to compensate for his absence.

And with Barcelona desperate to offload fringe players such as Dest and Lenglet, Levy and Spurs director of football Fabio Paratici could try and tempt the four-time European Champions into selling the duo.

However, German giants Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in signing Dest.

The Bavarians also tried to sign the USA international when he was still playing for Ajax, however, the Catalans pipped them to his signature and signed him for £24million in the summer of 2020.
