Tottenham are still working ‘under the radar’ to land Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez according to latest reports from Italy. The midfielder has emerged as a target for Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo and transfer chief Fabio Paratici – although the Premier League side are facing competition from the likes of Inter Milan and Atalanta.

Last week it was reported that Nandez was on Tottenham’s radar, with the 25-year-old believed to be seeking a new challenge this summer.

It was claimed in Italy that Spurs had opened talks with Cagliari to establish the likelihood of a move, with a loan-to-buy deal understood to be an option.

The Serie A side were understood to be willing to accept a £5million loan fee for Nandez to join Tottenham until the end of the season, with an obligation to buy for around £17m next summer.

But with just six days left out of the transfer window, the Uruguay international’s future is still up in the air.

Inter and Tottenham are still working behind the scenes to sign Nandez, according to La Nuova Sardegna, cited by Sport Witness.

Nandez is said to have a release clause of €36m (£30m) – but with no club willing to pay that, a loan-to-buy option is still the most likely scenario.

The report says his suitors are looking into the finer details ahead of next week’s transfer deadline, with the player himself having seemingly made up his mind that he wants to move.

Nandez has been linked with moves to Arsenal, West Ham United and Leeds United since the beginning of the summer, but Spurs appear to be the one Premier League side still in the race.

Tottenham also continue to be linked with Wolves winger Adama Traore, who looked sharp against his old boss Nuno at the weekend but was let down by his finishing.

Spurs academy product Noni Madueke has been on his former club’s radar after impressing for PSV Eidnhoven, although he signed a new four-year contract with Dutch side on Wednesday.

And Lyon ace Houssem Aouar is also believed to be on Tottenham’s list of potential targets as the transfer window draws to a close.

Meanwhile, Nuno was boosted on Wednesday by Harry Kane’s announcement that he has decided to stay at Tottenham rather than pursue a move to Manchester City.

Premier League done deals: Every confirmed transfer in the top flight

Kane made his first appearance for Spurs this season in Sunday’s win over Wolves, and said the fans had played a big part in his transfer U-turn.

“It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I’ve had in the last few weeks,” he posted on social media.

“I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100 per cent focused on helping the team achieve success.”
