Wrexham assistant manager Steve Parkin hopes that the club’s Hollywood owner Ryan Reynolds and returning striker Paul Mullin enjoyed their 3-0 win over Grimsby at the weekend. Reynolds was in town to witness Wrexham earn all three points at the SToK Racecourse, and see a first start for Mullin following his injury.
Goals from Ollie Palmer, Will Boyle and Elliott Lee saw the Dragons climb up to fourth in the League Two table with a jubilant Reynolds watching on in the stands. The Hollywood actor was without co-owner Rob McElhenney but managed to capture the club’s fourth consecutive win across all competitions.
Despite Reynolds’ appearance, assistant manager Steve Parkin believes that the movie star, and the cameras filming the “Welcome to Wrexham” docu-series, don’t come as a distraction to the players.
“To be honest we don’t pay much attention to that,” Parkin told Wrexham newspaper The Leader after the win. “We are comfortable with the cameras around the place now, we are used to the people here and we trust them. We just get on with our job.
“It is always nice to put a good display on when the owners are here and I am sure Ryan enjoyed it. But it is about just making sure you get those three points in the bag and keep climbing the table.”
As well as a win Reynolds was treated to star striker Mullin making a first starting appearance this season. Mullin has been out of action since July after he collided with former Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop during the club’s preseason tour of the United States.
Mullin suffered a punctured lung but has since been declared fit enough to return to the starting line-up following his substitute appearance against Doncaster. “When Paul first came back he was off the pace but he had a really good week training,” Parkin added. “For him to play the way he played, alright he has not scored but he got in tremendously good areas.

“We got some really good balls down the side to him and he was a real threat all day. The Grimsby centre-backs know they have been in a real game so we are delighted with his display. He is a confident lad in front of goal, he missed a couple but that won’t affect him, it never has done before.
“We are glad we have got him back and we are glad with the performance and the contribution from the whole squad which was really important.”
Wrexham are next in action on September 23 where they play Stockport County in another League 2 game.
