Stablehand killed after being hit by car while riding horse

A stablehand linked with Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Danny O'Brien was killed on Monday morning after a horse he was riding was hit by a car at Connewarre.

Victoria Police confirmed a man believed to be in his 30s died at the scene after the car struck his horse at a crossing on Thirteenth Beach Road at 6.45am.

The driver of the car and the horse have minor injuries.

"WorkSafe is attending the scene and police will prepare a report for the coroner," a police statement said.
