US Open champion Coco Gauff has found her name in amongst esteemed company after Google released a tribute video celebrating ’25 years of search’. The American teenager has been celebrated by the search engine giant alongside Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Billie Jean King, with the legendary trio included under a section titled ‘the most searched GOAT’.
Gauff is still some years from being able to be considered a ‘Greatest Of All Time’ but was instead included in the tail end of the tribute celebrating her US Open success at Flushing Meadows with the caption, ‘Here’s to the ones that set the bar’.
The sub-four-minute video captures some of the most significant world moments from the past 25 years, revealing a selection of the most searched topics, TV programmes and celebrities.
The final 45 seconds of the tribute is largely dedicated to sport, with Usain Bolt first out of the blocks for being the ‘Most searched world record’. Tennis icons Billie Jean King and the Williams sisters are joined by NFL quarterback Tom Brady in the GOAT tribute.
During the mini-section, King is heard saying: “To keep moving forward, each generation passes the baton down to the next generation.”
Cristiano Ronaldo features as the ‘most searched athlete’ as association football confirmed its place at the pinnacle of global sport by being declared the ‘most searched sport’. LA Lakers hero LeBron James followed next as the ‘most searched MVP’ and the ‘most searched cricketer’ was Virat Kohli.
King and the Williams sisters were not the only Tennis players to rank high on Google in 2023. A list showing the top ten most searched-for athletes includes Novak Djokovic in sixth place and Carlos Alcaraz in seventh.
Topping that particular list was Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin who suffered a cardiac arrest whilst playing a match in January but has since recovered and returned to action.
Second in the list is Paris Saint Germain and France striker Kylian Mbappe with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who is dating pop star Taylor Swift, in third.
