Wimbledon Final RECAP: Djokovic lands sixth title to equal Grand Slam record

Novak Djokovic came from a set behind to beat Matteo Berretini and land a record equalling 20th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon this afternoon.

The Serbian, who has already been victorious at SW19 on five occasions, fought back to win 6-7 6-4 6-4 6-3 to be crowned champion at SW19 for a sixth time and a third in succession.

Djokovic's victory means he has now matched the Grand Slam hauls of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, making it a three-way tie at the top.

Berrettini arrived at Wimbledon having just won at Queens and had the roar of the Wimbledon crowd behind him as he took the lead after a first set tie break.

But he could not hold off the impressive Djokovic, who eventually wore down his opponent to reign supreme once again.

Djokovic aiming for more

"It was more than a battle. Congratulations to Matteo and his team for a fantastic tournament.

"I know it's not the best feeling losing in the final but I'm sure there is a great career ahead of you.

"Winning Wimbledon was always the biggest dream of mine when I was a kid.

"How special this is, and I know not to take this for granted This is a huge honour and priveledge. Standing with a sixth Wimbledon, it's incredible."

On going level with Federer and Nadal

"It mkeans none of us three will stop, that's what it means. They are legends of our sport and they are the wto most important players that I've ever faced in my career.

The reason that I am here today. Made me realise what I need to improve to be stronger mentally, physically, tactically.

"Something shifted end of 2010/11. Last 10 years has been an incredible journey that is not stopping here."

Champion again

Berretini gets deserved ovation as he picks up his runners-up plate. What an effort from the Italian.

He gave Djokovic a real challenge early on, taking the first set and putting up a huge fight.

But eventually he succumbed to his opponents brilliance, as Djokovic collects the Wimbledon trophy again.

The tide has turned!

Advantage Djokovic as he breaks Berretini at a crucial stage.

Could be a matter of time now.
